basic demo reel
Compositor example: Mr T-Rex – done for a pilot for a sitcom about a VFX
company. Client storyboard. I did the rendering and compositing.
3D Animator example: Spawn retracting knuckle spikes – I did the 3d
tracking
Technical director
example: 13th Warrior
deleted Crow shot – I managed a 2 other artists, was the contact for the films
VFx director. I reviewed daily animatics, directed the shot based on client
feedback and did the final composite tweaking.
Pre Viz Art Director
Example: Pre-viz for 13th
Warrior’s opening scene. Worked directly with both the VFX and film directors.
Even went on location in Vancouver to do final tweaking. I then guided Cinne
site with the technical details of the shot.
Modeler example: Simm Mars’s habitat 7. Was principal molder but
also managed 2 other artists on components they developed. I also did all the
effects, lighting, composition and animation on the shot.
Production Manager
example: Dog’s best friend. The shot
here is actually from a gag reel we made, but I managed 15 CGI artists and
developed a complete production pipeline that delivered a mouthful of different
talking animals on time and under budget.
Editor example: Ok hold on here they come in order of appearance,
I’ll be gentile.
Viper: (Guy getting gutted and another getting eaten)
Cheesy film I came in as a mercenary to help them finish up some troubled
shots.
Digital Stunman:
developed on spec in just a few days for a new game
show sales kit. The idea was that the motion capture from real contestants would
be used to augment the game when broadcast.
Kung fu Gumbys: done as a test of the skinning of an all-digital Gumby.
Working closely with Art Clokey to assure the Gumby quality he demands.
13th Warrior
Previs: components and final
rendered scene. I did everything except rendering of final scene.
Tim Leary’s death: Done for Conceiving Ada – little freaky because he
died shortly after making this animation. Did everything.
Asteroid shock wave:
Done for crappy TV movie “Doomsday rock”. I
integrated 3d and 2d components in After Effects.
Yellow Stone volcanic
explosion: Done for Discovery
Channels’ America’s Great parks. I Supervised effect development and did the
final compositing.
Sim-Mars: leaving Earth shot. Did everything.
Singing head(s): This was a test for facial tracking technique I
developed. The original music was Obla-dee Obla-da. I liked because it looked
so freaky.
Plug-in Ship: Done for a 3D Studio promotion video, I was
production manager and animator.
Dancing babies workout:
This test was created for a sales kit pitching a
workout tape that capitalized on the dancing baby crazy a while back. (no, it
didn’t get made)
Real Gumby in CGI world: Another of many tests done in researching a CGI
movie featuring Gumby.
Four Eyed Jamie: Did this for my Survivor entry video. I liked how
well the extra eyes bended in.
Olof, throwing his
powerful balls around:
A segment
from the animation “Character Conflict” that we conceived and produced in order
to production test the first release of Character Studio.
IR surveillance camera: Shows parts that were merged together from 2
cameras to make the sequence for The Thomas Crown Affair.
Spawn retracting knuckle
spikes: I did the 3d tracking to
make this shot work.
Virtuosity disintegration
shot: Using textures from the source
plate, I created all the 3d components for the final composition.
What’s for Launch?:
Developed a rocket powered video capture system and
processed it to look like old film.
Character Killer portal: Designed and implemented this door portal for an
upcoming independent film.
Bruce Lee returns?: Developed and animated this 3D CGI face of Bruce Lee
for yet another T.V. show sales kit.
In the Game: Developed and animated this character for the before
mentioned CGI Game show’s sales kit.
Static: Yes, I even can do static.
Did this for Frank Foster’s documentary “The Story of Computer Graphics”
at Siggraph ‘99. If you study frame by frame, you’ll see secret subliminal
messages.
Fry Day Out: One of my favorite things to have done. I took an
Internet Meme that was only audio and did a hybrid Stop motion / CGI animated
short for it.
Virtual Jay (Leno): Done on tight schedules and a shoestring budget, we
did everything we could to make Jay Leno funny…sort of worked.
Godzilla Vs Mecha-Godzilla previs: Called in at the last minute to help get some final shots together for this year’s Godzilla film. Never saw how the final shot ended up as it was released in Japan.
